Tooth Replacement in Manhattan

In recent years, dentistry has made great strides in tooth replacement.  If you have lost one or more teeth and hope to regain a natural, healthy-looking smile, multiple treatment options are available to you, and all of them involve perfectly natural-looking tooth replacements.

Dental Implants

Dental implants from our Manhattan office are perhaps the closest a patient who has lost a tooth can get to having their healthy, natural tooth back.  Dental implants are natural looking tooth replicas that are attached below the gum line and function just like normal teeth.  The first step in the application of dental implants at our modern Manhattan office is the placement of an anchor(s).  An anchor implanted beneath the gum line into the jawbone will hold the implant in place. Placing an anchor requires healthy bone to support the implant. Once the bone joins with the anchor (osteointegration) a tooth or teeth may then be placed onto the anchor(s). In some cases, a provisional tooth may be placed at the same time the anchor is secured into the bone. With dental implants at Stuyvesant Dental, you can be sure your tooth replacement in Manhattan will be handled competently at every stage.

Bridges

Bridges are a natural-looking method of tooth replacement at our Manhattan practice that work without requiring surgery like dental implants.  Bridges are artificial teeth that bridge the gap a missing tooth leaves.  Stuyvesant Dental is proud to offer porcelain bridges, the most natural looking bridges available.

Dentures

With new technology, Stuyvesant Dental can create custom dentures that properly fit the contours of your mouth and look more natural than ever.  Stuyvesant Dental offers the advantage of dental implants to better secure the denture, when sufficient supporting teeth are absent. At Stuyvesant Dental, in most cases, we can even place dentures at the same visit teeth are extracted. You'll never have to walk around without teeth. Tooth replacement with dentures at our Manhattan office is quick and effective.

Gum Disease Treatment in Manhattan

Gum disease has been linked to cardiovascular or heart illness by the American Medical Association. Healthy gums generally surround teeth to a depth of approximately one eighth of an inch.  As gum disease, or gingivitis, begins to set in, the crevice underneath the gums gets progressively deeper.  As this deepening occurs, the gum tissue and teeth covered by the crevice become harder and harder to clean, and bacterial reproduction can snowball.

Gum disease treatment from our office in Manhattan can help treat the first stage of gum disease, gingivitis, through cleanings with a hygienist and supervised home care.  There is a periodontist on staff at Stuyvesant Dental to provide professional gum disease treatment at our Manhattan office.  We place a strong emphasis on preventive gum therapy and home care - most gum disease treatment is non-surgical.

If you are experiencing some or all of the early signs of gum disease (bleeding, swelling, recession, pain, and/or odor), or just want to maintain the health of your gums, contact Stuyvesant Dental Associates for an appointment today.

Endodontics

Root Canal

Root canal therapy is designed to save teeth whose nerves have become infected.  At that stage, the dental pulp must be removed to keep the infection from spreading to the jawbone or other teeth.  At Stuyvesant Dental, with the use of advanced rotary technology, Dr. Schwarz can now perform one-hour root canal therapy, rendering a once feared procedure painless and convenient.

If you are interested in gum disease treatment, tooth replacement, or dental implants from our Manhattan office, contact Stuyvesant Dental today.

General and Family Dentistry

Stuyvesant Dental has been providing a full range of dental procedures, to our adult and children patients, for over 25 years. Digital radiographs are now exclusively used, when ever needed, for diagnostic purposes. Not only are they extremely quick and diagnostic but eliminate radiation by as much as 90%. Our patients receive state of the art materials and skills for all their dental needs. Computerized intra-oral cameras are used to simplify the viewing and understanding of our patient's dental needs. Safe and painless dentistry is a foremost concern of general dentist Dr. Harry Pascal and Dr. Sumner Schwarz. Preventive dentistry is another emphasis of our office. Early detection of cavities, gum disease, and other dental abnormalities is essential for optimal dental health. Fluoride treatments and sealants are used in an effort to eliminate future decay. Nitrous oxide and musical headphones are provided for the relaxation and comfort of our patients and to help those who are apprehensive and fearful of dentistry. SAVING LIVES

Oral Cancer Screening

Unfortunately it is a fact of life that many of us, or someone in our lives, has battled cancer. The doctors at Stuyvesant Dental have always performed oral cancer screenings on all of our patients. Now, with the latest technology available, Dr Harry Pascal and Dr. Sumner Schwarz are better able to screen their patients for even earlier detection of this insidious disease.

According to the American Cancer Society, 2 to 4 percent of cancers diagnosed in the United States each year occur in the oral cavity. This includes sites on the lip, tongue, floor of the mouth, gums, and throat. Approximately 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed annually, and approximately 8,000 deaths occur each year from oral cancer. At the time oral cancer is diagnosed, more than half of the patients have invasive or metastatic disease, which reduces long-term survival rates. Early diagnosis is critical to increasing survival rates from this deadly and potentially disfiguring disease.

Cancer can start with early changes in the oral tissue that may not yet be visible to the naked eye. At Stuyvesant Dental our doctors utilize a new technology, “ViziLite Plus, an early detection system that safely uses an acetic acid solution in the mouth which is then viewed under a low-energy wavelength light. Abnormal tissue will appear white while normal tissue will appear dark. If an abnormal area is discovered, it can be marked with a dye and the patient will be referred for evaluation and/or biopsy by a specialist.

Patients at greater risk for developing oral cancer should certainly be screened, as well as all patients, since 27 percent of oral cancers occur in patients with no apparent risk factors. Key risk factors for oral cancer include: age (40 years or older) alcohol and tobacco use (especially in combination) exposure to sunlight, previous diagnosis of cancer, or a family history of the disease.
